Functional Medicine & Lab Testing
Science-based root-cause assessment with advanced testing and personalized protocols to restore health and improve function.
What Is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is a science-based healthcare approach that assesses and treats underlying causes of illness through individually suitable therapies to restore health and improve function. It links research in basic science with clinical care to create safe and effective prevention, early intervention, and treatment of complex chronic conditions.
The understanding of physiological and biochemical function and dysfunction produces a unique approach to health care that focuses on achieving health through normalizing and balancing the function of the body — not merely managing symptoms.
Principles
- A science-based field of health care
- Biochemical individuality based on genetic and environmental uniqueness
- Patient-centered versus disease-centered
- Dynamic balance of internal and external factors
- Web-like interconnections of physiological factors
- Health as positive growth — not merely the absence of disease
- Promotion of organ reserve and healthspan
Imbalances Addressed
- Environmental Inputs (Diet, Nutrition, Exercise, Trauma)
- Immune & Inflammatory Imbalance
- Energy Production / Oxidative Stress
- Gastrointestinal Imbalance
- Detoxification & Biotransformation
- Hormonal & Neurotransmitter Imbalance
- Structural Imbalance
- Mind & Spirit
Advanced Lab Testing
At Q Functional Medicine Clinic, Dr. Lee specializes in finding the true cause of your problem. A thorough consultation and comprehensive examination allows us to understand your level of health and determine the right course of action.
Advance Adrenal Stress Test
Evaluates adrenal gland function to identify adrenal fatigue caused by prolonged stress. Symptoms include waking up tired, needing coffee to get going, sore muscles that don't recover, sleep disturbances, chronic pain, and restless legs.
FIT — Food Inflammation Test
A blood test to determine if a patient is experiencing food intolerance. Identifies foods causing inflammation or triggering adverse responses. Food allergens have been implicated in conditions from indigestion and gastritis to celiac disease and chronic infection.
IgG Food Sensitivity Testing
Tests for delayed-onset food reactions (IgG) which can take hours to days to manifest — making them hard to pinpoint. Unlike immediate IgE reactions, these represent a much larger percentage of food issues people suffer with. Results take 10-14 days from the lab.
Salivary Hormone Testing
A simple, non-invasive, reliable method to assess bioavailable hormone levels. Unlike serum tests, saliva testing measures only hormones actively delivered to receptors in the body — providing an accurate reflection of active hormone levels. Multiple panel options available.

Nutritional Therapy
QFMC pursues holistic care through natural care plans. Each program contains diet guidance, individually designed exercise, natural nutrition prescriptions, and is a well-organized maintenance program including meditation and stress release techniques. Frequently Asked Questions
Functional medicine is a science-based healthcare approach that assesses and treats underlying causes of illness through individually suitable therapies to restore health and improve function. It focuses on changing the patient's state of health to their fullest potential, rather than just managing symptoms.
IgE tests identify immediate-onset food allergies — severe reactions within minutes (like peanut allergies). IgG tests identify delayed-onset food sensitivities — reactions that can take hours or days to manifest. Most people know their IgE allergies from prior reactions, but delayed-onset IgG sensitivities are often undiagnosed and make up the larger percentage of food reactions.
Most lab results return within 10-14 days. Blood samples are sent overnight to specialized labs. Dr. Lee will review results with you and develop a personalized treatment plan based on the findings.
Not every patient needs lab testing. Dr. Lee performs a thorough consultation and examination first, then recommends testing only when it will help identify the root cause of your condition. Testing is most valuable for patients with chronic conditions, food sensitivities, hormonal imbalances, or fatigue.
